Roblox display names and profile text can take styled Unicode, generated the same way as anywhere else — the fancy text generator or small text generator produce it. Roblox's text filter, though, is stricter than a typical social app.
This guide covers where styled text works in Roblox and what its moderation strips.
Display name vs username
Roblox's username (used to log in) is plain characters only. The display name, added later, accepts some Unicode — this is where styled names go. Display names still pass through Roblox's moderation filter, which rejects names it can't read or judges as evading a filter.
What the filter allows
Simple, readable styles — small caps and bold — pass most often. Heavily decorated styles, upside-down text, and long runs of unusual symbols are frequently blocked or auto-reverted, because Roblox targets a young audience and filters aggressively for safety. There's no published allowlist; test and expect some rejections.
In-game chat
Chat is filtered per-experience and more tightly than names, especially for accounts under 13. Styled Unicode in chat is often stripped to plain text or blocked. Don't rely on it landing.
How to try a styled display name
1. Generate a simple style (small caps or bold) and copy it.
2. Account settings → change display name → paste.
3. If it's rejected, simplify — fewer decorative characters, no flips — and try again. See copy and paste fonts for which styles are simplest.
