Glitch Text Generator

This glitch text generator — also known as a zalgo text generator — stacks Unicode combining marks above, through, and below each letter to produce that corrupted, creepy, 'glitched-out' look, built from real text rather than an image or video effect. The more marks stacked on, the more distorted and unstable the text appears.

It's popular for horror-themed posts, creepypasta text, Discord messages, and usernames that need to stand out. Because it's real Unicode text, it copies and pastes anywhere plain text is accepted — though the same density that makes it look unsettling can also make it hard to read or trigger spam filters in a few apps, so it's worth previewing before you rely on it somewhere important.

How to use it

Copy and paste in four steps.

01

Type the word or phrase you want glitched into the box below.

02

Watch it corrupt in real time as combining marks stack onto each letter.

03

Copy the glitch text result with one tap.

04

Paste it into your caption, message, or display name, and preview it there, since a few apps or moderation filters treat heavily-stacked text as suspicious.

How the zalgo generator builds its output

Zalgo is not a font and not an image. Every glitched letter is one ordinary letter with extra combining marks attached to it, and those marks are what pile up above, through, and below the baseline.

That is why intensity is a count rather than a switch. A few marks produce a tremor; dozens produce a column of noise that overlaps the lines above and below it. If you only need one word to look unstable, keep the count low and leave the rest of the sentence alone.

Choosing an intensity for the place you are pasting
IntensityLooks likeWorks in
LightA slight shake on each letterDisplay names, usernames, titles
MediumClearly corrupted textMessages, captions, post bodies
HeavyRows overlapping each otherMessages on desktop only
ExtremeUnreadable vertical smearAlmost nowhere, and it gets filtered

Where glitched text survives today

Support is uneven because each platform decides how much vertical space it will give a line of text.

Using the tool well

Type the word, choose an intensity, copy the result, and paste it once to check the line height before you commit. If the line grows taller than the surrounding text, step the intensity down rather than adding a second effect.

Treat glitch text as a short-form effect. It works on a word, a name, or a heading, and it works against you on a paragraph.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01What is glitch text (zalgo text)?+

It's text built by stacking multiple Unicode combining marks — accents, underlines, and overlines meant to be used sparingly — onto each character, which creates the corrupted, unstable 'glitched' look often called zalgo text.

02How do I make glitch or zalgo text to copy and paste?+

Type your text into the generator above, copy the corrupted result, and paste it wherever you need it — it's standard Unicode, so no special app or font is required.

03Is glitch text the same as zalgo text?+

Yes — 'glitch text' and 'zalgo text' both describe the same combining-mark effect. Some communities also call it 'corrupted text' or 'creepy text'.

04Why does heavily glitched text get cut off or blocked in some apps?+

A dense stack of combining marks can trip length limits or spam/abuse filters in some apps, since it's an unusual pattern compared to normal text. If that happens, try a lighter amount of glitching.

05Does glitch text work in Discord names and messages?+

Yes, in messages and most display names. Extremely heavy glitching can occasionally be rejected by a server's name-length limit, since each combining mark adds to the character count even though it doesn't add visible width.

06How do I make zalgo text less intense?+

Reduce the number of combining marks per letter rather than editing the result by hand. A light setting adds one to three marks, which reads as a tremor instead of a collapse, and it survives far more filters and editors than a heavy setting does.

07Why is my zalgo text taller than the line it is on?+

Combining marks stack vertically above and below the base letter, so the line box grows to fit them. Nothing in the text can stop that, which is why heavy zalgo overlaps neighbouring lines and why light zalgo is the version that stays readable in a chat.

08Can glitch text break a website or an app?+

It cannot execute anything, because it is only characters. What it can do is stress rendering and layout on very old browsers, and it can trip spam and abuse filters on social platforms. That practical risk, not a technical one, is the reason names usually get rejected.
