An underline text generator stacks a Unicode combining underline mark onto each character, so the line travels with the text into fields that have no formatting button — bios, captions, chat. Generate it with the underline text generator.
This guide covers how the combining mark works, the difference from typing underscores, and the platforms that strip it.
Combining underline vs underscore
Typing underscores between letters (l_i_k_e) puts characters on the baseline between letters. The combining low line (U+0332) sits under each character and joins up into a continuous underline — closer to a real underline. This tool uses the combining mark.
How to copy and paste it
1. Open the underline text generator and type your text.
2. Copy the underlined result.
3. Paste into the bio, caption, message, or field.
4. Check it there — if the line is gone, that platform strips combining marks.
Where it survives and where it doesn't
Underlined Unicode renders in many chat apps, some social bios, and plain-text editors. Instagram and a few others normalise combining marks away, so the base letters stay but the line disappears. There's no workaround on a platform that strips them — the same applies to the strikethrough tool.
Underline in documents
It pastes into Word and Google Docs and displays, but for a document you'll keep editing, the app's own underline button is sturdier because it's a text attribute rather than a stack of marks.
